Found a pet? Find the owner without giving out your details

An animal has turned up on your property or is wandering the street. You want to help, but you don't want strangers knocking on your door. Post a found report on Pet Social: the community and our AI matcher do the searching, and every conversation stays inside the app until you choose otherwise.

Step by step

  1. 1Take a photo of the animal from a safe distance — never approach a frightened or injured animal.
  2. 2Post a found report with the approximate location, a description and any collar or tag details.
  3. 3Pet Social compares your report against missing pets nearby and notifies owners of likely matches.
  4. 4Verify through private chat — ask the owner to describe markings you didn't post publicly.
  5. 5Arrange a safe, public handover once you're confident it's the right owner.

Should I take the animal inside?

Only if it's safe and the animal is calm. Contain the animal in a quiet room or fenced yard with water, away from your own pets. If the animal is injured, aggressive or distressed, keep your distance and contact your local vet, council ranger or animal control. Vets scan microchips for free.

Protecting your privacy

Never post your street address publicly. Pet Social only shows an approximate location on the map, and all first contact happens in in-app chat, so you keep control of your personal details.

Confirming the real owner

Keep one identifying detail out of your public post — a scar, a collar tag engraving, an unusual marking — and ask claimants to describe it. Genuine owners will also have earlier photos of the pet.
