Lost pet? Report your missing pet and alert your neighbourhood

When a pet goes missing, the first few hours matter most. Pet Social turns your neighbourhood into a live search party: post your missing pet once and everyone nearby can see the photo, the last-seen location and how to reach you — privately, through in-app chat.

Step by step

  1. 1Create a free Pet Social account and add your pet with clear photos, breed, colour and any distinctive markings.
  2. 2Mark the pet as missing and set the last-seen suburb or drop a pin on the map.
  3. 3Your alert appears instantly in the local feed and on the sightings map for people searching nearby.
  4. 4Our AI matcher cross-references new found reports and sightings against your pet's photos and notifies you when there's a likely match.
  5. 5Chat inside the app to confirm the sighting, then arrange a safe collection when you're ready.

What to do in the first hour your pet goes missing

Search your own property first — cats in particular hide close to home in sheds, under decks and in garages. Then walk the surrounding streets calling calmly, take a favourite treat or squeaky toy, and post your missing pet on Pet Social so neighbours start looking with you straight away. Notify your microchip registry and local vets and shelters as soon as your post is live.

Make your missing pet post work harder

Use bright, well-lit photos taken from the side and the front. Mention the collar, tag colour, microchip status, temperament and whether the pet is likely to approach strangers. Accurate colour and size descriptions help the AI matcher pair your pet with found reports posted by other members.

Search a wider area

Dogs can travel many kilometres in a day. Free members search within 50km of their verified home suburb, and Pet Social+ members can widen the radius to their whole country or worldwide with one tap — useful if your pet may have been picked up and moved.

Frequently asked questions

Is reporting a lost pet on Pet Social free?

Yes. Creating an account, posting a missing pet, receiving sightings and messaging finders are all free.

How quickly will people see my missing pet post?

Immediately. Your post appears in the community feed and on the sightings map for members near your last-seen location as soon as you publish it.

Do I have to share my phone number or address?

No. First contact always happens in the app's private chat. You choose if and when to share personal or collection details.

What if someone finds my pet in another suburb?

Found reports from other suburbs are still matched to your pet by our AI matcher, and you'll get a notification asking you to confirm whether it's your pet.
